Who we are
Brixham Character Cottages is a family-run holiday accommodation business operated by Katy and Tony Heard in Brixham, Devon. For privacy questions, contact stay@brixhamcharactercottages.co.uk or telephone 01803 855710.
Information we collect
Depending on how you contact or book with us, we may collect your name, email address, telephone number, home or billing address, requested dates, number of guests, payment and booking information, messages, accessibility requirements and other information you choose to provide.
We do not ask you to send card details through the website enquiry form or ordinary email.
Why we use it
- To respond to an enquiry and provide a quote.
- To create, administer and fulfil a booking.
- To take or record payments through an approved payment provider.
- To communicate essential arrival, safety and property information.
- To comply with legal, tax, accounting and insurance obligations.
- To protect our properties, guests and legal rights.
Our lawful basis
We normally process enquiry and booking information because it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract and to perform the accommodation contract. Some records are retained to meet legal obligations or for our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the business.
Who receives information
We do not sell personal information. We may use service providers for website hosting, email, enquiry processing, booking management, payment processing, accounting and IT support. Each provider receives only the information needed to provide its service.
If you choose to book through Airbnb, Airbnb processes your information under its own privacy terms. Our direct website does not control Airbnb’s processing.
Payments
Direct online payments will be handled by a specialist booking or payment provider once that service is activated. Brixham Character Cottages will not store complete payment-card details on this website.
How long information is kept
General enquiries that do not become bookings are normally deleted when they are no longer useful, generally within 24 months. Booking and payment records may be retained for up to seven years where reasonably required for tax, accounting, legal or insurance purposes.
Cookies, maps and website measurement
The initial website does not use advertising trackers or optional analytics. If those tools are introduced, this notice and the consent mechanism will be updated before they are enabled.
The website’s font files are hosted with the website itself and do not require a connection to Google Fonts.
The Sealark and Sunberry pages include interactive Google Maps centred on the cottage addresses confirmed by the owners. The maps are loaded from Google when the relevant part of the page is approached and Google may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser details and the referring website under its own privacy terms.
Your rights
UK data-protection law may give you rights to request access, correction, deletion or restriction of your personal information, to object to certain processing and to receive certain information in a portable form. Rights depend on the circumstances and legal retention duties.
Contact us first if you have a concern. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Security
We use reasonable organisational and technical safeguards, but no ordinary email or internet transmission is completely secure. Do not send payment-card details or sensitive identity documents through the general enquiry form.
Changes
We may update this notice when the booking system, payment provider, analytics arrangements or legal requirements change. The current version will remain available on this page.
